The anchovy in Ondarroa is a deep-rooted tradition, reflecting the importance of fishing in this Basque town. May marks the high season for anchovies and with it, the celebration of Anchovy Day (Antxoa Egune).

This fair is held on the third Saturday of the month. There, we can find pintxo competitions, where the anchovy is the main ingredient. On your journey through the Basque Country, try typical dishes such as salted anchovies and grilled anchovies, both of which stand out for the intense flavour and freshness of the local fish.
