The Basque Coast Geopark, a unique enclave between the Cantabrian Sea and the Basque mountains, comprises the municipalities of Deba, Mutriku and Zumaia.

This landscape is characterised by the vibrant palette of greens in pastures and forests that extend from the coast. Beyond its superficial beauty, the area is home to a rich geology that recounts crucial episodes of the Earth’s history.

Since 2010, it has been part of the European and Global Geoparks Networks, and in 2015 it was designated a UNESCO Global Geopark, a title that underlines its exceptional geological heritage.

In addition, this important recognition highlights its geological, cultural and educational importance, meeting strict conservation, education and sustainable tourism criteria.
