Astigarraga is the capital of Basque cider. The town has numerous cider houses, where you can enjoy traditional Basque cider and try out a traditional “txotx” (the act of drinking cider directly from the Kupela, meaning “barrel” in Basque).
Astigarraga is home to the Basque Cider Museum, a fascinating place where you can learn about cider history and its production process, and discover curious details, like the fact that Basque sailors carried barrels of vitamin C-rich cider to fight off scurvy.
