In the southern section of town, on the flanks of a small hill that can be reached by dirt path, you will find the Nuestra Señora de la Peña hermitage, which is one of the Basque Country’s most special.

Its origins are pre-Romanesque. It was chiselled from the same rock (even its altarpiece is carved from this material), and became the home of an eremitic community in the Middle Ages. Its temple is usually closed, so getting information from Peñacerrada Town Hall about being able to access its interior is recommended.
