What to do > Sports > Rower for a day in Orio

The origin of rowing in the Basque Country is deeply rooted in its coastal culture, where traineras, originally fishing boats, were used for competition between fishermen. Over time, these competitions were formalised and became a popular sport, keeping alive the connection with the sea and the region’s maritime tradition.

This tourist experience of rowing in Orio immerses you in an emblematic tradition of the Basque Country. At the Arraunetxea Olympic rowing club, you will have the opportunity to learn about the history of rowing and take part in a guided rowing activity on the Orio estuary.

The experience includes a guided tour, shower and changing room service, and an immersion in the local culture with a visit to a traditional Basque cider house to enjoy a typical menu. The total duration is approximately 6 hours, offering a mix of sport, culture and cuisine.
