Discover Artium Museoa: A Sanctuary of Art in the Heart of Vitoria-Gasteiz

Immerse yourself in the world of contemporary art at Artium Museoa, an architectural jewel hidden in the historical streets of Vitoria-Gasteiz. With 13,000 m2 of innovative space, most of it located below street level, this museum is not just an exhibition venue, but a masterpiece in its own right. Surrounded by an internal square and adorned with the greenery of the Lorategi, the museum’s garden, Artium is an oasis of culture and beauty.

Visually striking, the museum features two architectural volumes: a white concrete cube symbolising the purity of art and a grey granite volume that stands as the guardian of the internal plaza. But the real magic happens underground, where a labyrinth of rooms leads you through the museum’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions.

Artium Museoa is positioned as a cultural hub of the city, just a few steps from Santa María Cathedral. This space not only pays tribute to history and contemporary art, but also serves as a social and urban meeting point, reflecting the vision of architect José Luis Catón.

In the museum’s plaza, admire works by great masters such as Richard Serra, Jorge Oteiza, Eduardo Chillida, Vicente Larrea, Miquel Navarro and Néstor Basterretxea, whose sculptures dialogue with their surroundings and with each other. Inside the museum, emblematic works such as Joan Miró’s Mural of the Cinémathèque de Paris await you, along with innovative exhibition rooms that form an underground “U”.

Looking for an educational experience? The grey granite building houses educational workshops, a library and a documentation centre, offering a comprehensive experience for visitors of all ages.
