Description
San Sebastián (Donostia / San Sebastián) sits at the edge of one of the most distinctive bays on the Cantabrian coast, framed by La Concha and Ondarreta beaches. The seafront promenade leads to Monte Igeldo, reachable by funicular, where a sweeping panorama over the city meets a historic amusement park that has been operating since 1912. The city holds a strong reputation for food: it combines a high concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants with the everyday tradition of pintxos bars concentrated in the old town, the old quarter at the heart of local life. Every September, the San Sebastián International Film Festival draws global attention to the city, reinforcing its cultural standing beyond the region. At the western edge of the city, where the sea meets the cliffs, stands 'The Comb of the Wind' — Eduardo Chillida's sculptural work set directly into the rocks and the Atlantic swell. It has become one of the most recognisable symbols of Basque contemporary art and of the destination itself.
