Description

The Bandera de La Concha is one of the most emblematic rowing regattas in Basque sport. It takes place on the first two Sundays of September in La Concha bay in San Sebastián (Donostia / San Sebastián), one of the most recognisable maritime settings on the Basque coast. Thousands of people gather on the shoreline to follow the race, and a festive atmosphere spreads across the city on both days.

The regatta has over 130 years of history: it was first held in 1879 as part of the San Sebastián festivities programme and has since established itself as one of the most important sporting and popular events of the summer in the city. Since 2008, the competition has also included a women's category.

For those visiting San Sebastián in September, the Bandera de La Concha offers the chance to watch a deeply rooted Basque sporting spectacle with a strong popular following, in the unmistakable setting of the bay that gives the race its name.
