Discover Marine Life at the Donostia/San Sebastián Aquarium

The Aquarium of Donostia (Donostia/San Sebastián) stands in a distinctive location on the city's harbour, right next to the Old Quarter. Its route is spread across two floors: one dedicated to the Cantabrian-Atlantic sea and another with a tropical theme, with more than 31 aquariums in total. The centrepiece is the Oceanarium, a vast tank holding over 1,500,000 litres of water, crossed by a 360° tunnel where more than 40 fish species coexist — including five shark species, among them two bull sharks — alongside a wide variety of Cantabrian and Atlantic fauna. Throughout the visit, the aquariums include information on the conservation status of each species, with the aim of conveying the importance of ocean biodiversity and the need to protect the seas. The visit is also complemented by a museum, guided tours and activities. Located in the heart of Donostia, the Aquarium is a substantial stop on any itinerary through the city or along the Basque coast.
