Guided Visit with Txakoli Tasting to the Valdibian Mill and Ironworks

The ironworks and mill of Valdibian, in Galdames, form a heritage-listed complex that spans centuries of ironworking history in the Barbadún basin. The ironworks were built by the Salazar family in the 15th century and became one of the most important in the area during the 16th century; rebuilt in 1680, they operated until 1839, when the site gave way to today's flour mill. It is now the only mill in the basin that still grinds grain with its original machinery in working condition. The surroundings preserve the ironworks building with its workshops, the buried hydraulic channels through which the original flow still runs, the dam, three ore furnaces beneath the small square, and the charcoal-storage area with its original wall. The guided visit takes in the mill and ironworks with a milling demonstration and a txakoli wine-pairing tasting, held in the winery or at the mill itself, a stop that brings together industrial heritage and local gastronomy along the route through the Basque Country.
