Ordizia

Ordizia is a medieval town in the interior of Gipuzkoa, set on the banks of the Oria river with the distinctive outline of Mount Txindoki (1,346 m) shaping the surrounding landscape. Located in the Goierri region, around 30 minutes from San Sebastián (Donostia / San Sebastián), it occupies a natural crossroads between the inland valleys and the provincial capital.

The town's most distinctive feature is its weekly market, which has been held every Wednesday in the main square since 1512. This long-standing gathering brings together local producers and buyers, with fresh agricultural produce —particularly Idiazabal cheese— at its heart. The prices set at this market have historically served as a benchmark for agricultural products across Euskadi-Basque Country.

Ordizia also has a historic old town worth exploring, and a strong sense of local identity expressed through traditions such as the tamborrada drum parade and the annual Idiazabal cheese competition. The d'Elikatuz interpretation centre adds a cultural dimension to any visit, offering an insight into Basque food culture and cuisine.
