Description

The Green Belt is a circular route of more than 30 kilometres that encircles Vitoria (Vitoria-Gasteiz), linking its main periurban parks through eco-recreational corridors. The entire circuit can be completed on foot or by bicycle, and its completely flat terrain makes it easy to access from any part of the city. The route passes through a varied range of ecological environments — wetlands, riverbanks, and woodland areas — home to a notable diversity of wildlife. Several of its sites have received international recognition, including the Salburua wetlands and the Zadorra river corridor, both part of the Natura 2000 network. Along the way, parks are equipped with rest areas, information panels, birdwatching hides, organic vegetable gardens, and visitor facilities such as the Ataria Interpretation Centre and the Casa de la Dehesa de Olarizu. For travellers exploring the Basque Country in stages, the Green Belt offers a grounded way to experience the natural and urban character of Vitoria before moving on.
