Description
Artium Museoa is the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Basque Country, located next to the historic quarter of Vitoria-Gasteiz. Spanning 13,000 m², the building is organised around an interior plaza and opens onto the Lorategi, the museum's garden — spaces that form part of the visit before you even step inside the galleries. The museum's permanent collection holds nearly 2,400 works of art in public ownership, with a particular focus on Basque contemporary art in both its local and international dimensions. This is complemented by a continuous programme of temporary exhibitions, activities, educational programmes for all audiences, and a Centre for Studies with regular open sessions. Within a journey through Álava or the Basque Country, Artium offers a clear contemporary cultural landmark: an active museum with its own collection and a busy schedule, whose scale and location make it a natural stop within any visit to Vitoria-Gasteiz.
