Description
The tour sets off from the Guiartu office on Cuchillería Street, in the medieval quarter of Vitoria-Gasteiz, and covers 15 kilometres combining urban history and nature. The first section leads to the Zaramaga neighbourhood, where the route stops at five murals, the Santa Isabel cemetery and the events of 3 March 1976. From there, the ride continues to Salburua park, a wetland of over 210 hectares just 3.5 km from the city centre. Salburua is part of the Ramsar Convention and the Natura 2000 network, and since 2023 has been Spain's first urban ecotourism destination. Inside the park, the tour visits the Ataria Interpretation Centre and the Los Fresnos observatory. The tour is led by a certified official guide and includes bicycle, helmet, pannier bag, lock, binoculars, telescope and a drink at the end. For travellers exploring the Basque Country by stages, Vitoria-Gasteiz offers in this tour a layered reading of urban, historical and natural heritage that is rarely found in a single outing.
