Zestoa

Zestoa is a municipality in Gipuzkoa, located in the Urola Erdia region close to Zumaia and well connected to San Sebastián via the A-8 motorway. Its town centre preserves notable buildings such as the Portalekoa, Lizenziadokua and Arretxe houses, while across the Zubiaurre bridge stands the Palace of Lili, a 16th-century Gothic structure of considerable heritage value.

The area around Zestoa is also significant for its archaeological sites. The Irikaitz site stands out for the age of its finds, which include remains from the Lower Palaeolithic — making it the earliest site of this period identified in Gipuzkoa. From the town, visitors can also reach the Ekain cave, located within the municipality of Deba, a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing Magdalenian depictions of horses, deer and bears. Since the original cave is closed to the public, its replica Ekainberri, situated in the Sastarrain valley just 600 metres away, offers accessible insight into this extraordinary heritage.
