Gorbeia Natural Park

Gorbeia Natural Park stretches across the historical territories of Bizkaia and Álava, centred on the mountain that gives it its name, which reaches 1,481 metres above sea level. It is the largest natural park in the Basque Country, recognised for its ecological value and afforded special protection status.

At the summit stands the Cruz del Gorbeia, an 18-metre-high cross that serves as a landmark of the territory and a symbol of the deep mountaineering tradition rooted in Basque culture. The park's landscape of forests, meadows and peaks has established it as a key destination for hiking and mountain activities throughout the Basque Country.

For those wishing to discover the park in greater depth, the Gorbeia Interpretation Centre (Parketxe), located in Areatza, offers a permanent exhibition on the park's different aspects and features a virtual ascent to the Cruz del Gorbeia.
