Description

The Arrikrutz caves, located in the Araotz neighbourhood of Oñati, form one of the most extensive underground systems in Gipuzkoa. EspeleoTxiki is a caving activity designed for families with children aged 6 and over, offering a hands-on way to explore this subterranean world. The visit begins in Gallery 53, a 500-metre section fitted with a walkway, where participants encounter replicas of prehistoric animals that once inhabited the caves. After completing this stretch, the group leaves the walkway behind and enters the cave in its natural state — stalactites, stalagmites, real darkness and the deep silence of the underground. Species that currently live inside the cave can also be spotted along the way. The activity lasts approximately two and a half hours and requires advance booking. For travellers exploring the Basque Country on a multi-stop itinerary, Arrikrutz combines nature, active adventure and an outstanding palaeontological setting in a single visit.
