Zambrana

Zambrana is a municipality in the Cuadrilla de Añana, Álava, made up of four villages: Berganzo, Ocio, Zabalate/Portilla and Zambrana, the municipal capital. Its territorial identity is closely linked to its medieval fortified heritage, which is why it is known as the municipality of castles.

The Portilla Monumental Complex is the most significant heritage asset in the area. Declared a Qualified Cultural Asset, this medieval precinct brings together a castle, a church and the village of Villavieja in a cultural landscape that merges historic structures with the natural hillside setting.

The castle of Ocio, in the village of the same name, joins Portilla in defining the municipality's medieval character. The Berganzo Water Route and the valley landscape add a natural dimension that complements the historical value of this corner of the Cuadrilla de Añana.
