Valley of Iron – Lenbur Museum-Territory
- Reconnecting with your sensesDonostia/San Sebastián — Vitoria-Gasteiz
Description
The Lenbur Museum-Territory stretches across the Valley of Iron in Legazpi, offering a route through historic buildings that illustrate the relationship between the Basque people and iron from pre-industrial times to the 20th century. Unlike a conventional museum, Lenbur — an acronym for Legazpi Natura eta Burdina — distributes its proposal across several spaces throughout the territory.
The Mirandaola Park forms the core of the route known as «The Heartbeat of the Forges». It brings together the restored and functioning Mirandaola forge, the Mirandaola hermitage, and the Basque Iron Museum. The itinerary is completed by Chillida Lantoki, housed in the former paper mill, which explores the connection between sculptor Eduardo Chillida and local industry, particularly the Patricio Echeverría forge. Together, these spaces offer insight into how iron has shaped the economy, landscape and identity of the Legazpi territory.
