Combined Visit to the Basque Iron Museum and Mirandaola Forge
- Reconnecting with your sensesDonostia/San Sebastián — Vitoria-Gasteiz
Description
The Basque Iron Museum is located in the Mirandaola park, in the Iron Valley of Legazpi, and forms part of the Lenbur Museum-Territory project. The museum explores the relationship between people, the natural environment and iron from multiple perspectives: technological, historical, social and landscape-based. Panels, multimedia resources and audioguides allow the visit to be made independently. The visit combines free access to the Basque Iron Museum and the working Mirandaola forge, where visitors can watch the live spectacle of ironworkers forging red-hot iron on the great hammer. The museum brings to life trades such as ironworker, miner and charcoal maker, with a full-scale charcoal pit and a mine reconstruction. For those travelling through inland Gipuzkoa, the Iron Valley is a key stop that weaves together nature, industrial heritage and collective memory. A guided tour is also available with advance booking.
