Sopela

Sopela is a municipality on the Bizkaia coast, part of the Uribe district, whose beaches have made it one of the most visited surf destinations on the Basque coastline.

Its coastal strip forms part of the Flysch Bizkaia Route, a geological trail that allows millions of years of Earth's history to be read in the cliffs. Around Sopela, several points of interest along this route can be found, including the K-T boundary and the Meñakoz cliffs.

Beyond surfing and bodyboarding, the municipality offers opportunities for paragliding, climbing and walking or cycling routes. Ancient hermitages scattered across its territory add a further layer to the local heritage.
