Oiartzun

Oiartzun lies in the northeast of Gipuzkoa, in a mountainous area just a few kilometres from the sea. The Oiartzun river runs through the municipality, one of the largest in the province, and part of its territory falls within the Aiako Harria Natural Park — the only granite massif in the Basque Country, with significant landscape and ecological value.

The main population centre, the Elizalde neighbourhood, sits on the right bank of the river and contains a historic quarter with buildings of architectural interest. The most notable are the parish church of San Esteban de Lartaun, which preserves a 17th-century altarpiece listed as Cultural Heritage, and the 16th-century basilica of San Juan Bautista.

The municipality is also home to the Arditurri Greenway, a route for walkers and cyclists linking Lezo and Pasai Antxo with the Arditurri Mining Site, where mines have been worked for over two thousand years. Along the way, visitors can reach the Luberri Geological Interpretation Centre and the Soinuenea Centre for Traditional Music, two facilities that reflect the cultural and natural diversity of the territory.
