Hernani
- With lots of tasteZarautz — Donostia/San Sebastián
Description
Hernani is a town in Gipuzkoa, just 10 km from San Sebastián (Donostia / San Sebastián), nestled at the foot of Mount Santa Bárbara along the valley of the Urumea river, which flows through the town from north to south, gathering the waters of the surrounding streams. This riverside and mountain setting shapes much of the town's character and offers broad views across the Urumea valley.
The historic centre preserves architectural and ethnographic heritage of interest, and Hernani also holds a significant place along the inland route of the Camino de Santiago through Gipuzkoa. On the Zabalaga estate, in the Jáuregi neighbourhood, Chillida Leku offers visitors the chance to explore the artistic journey of sculptor Eduardo Chillida in a natural outdoor setting.
The cider-making tradition is another defining feature of Hernani, with local cider houses that form an integral part of the town's gastronomic culture and rural landscape.
