Gorliz

Gorliz is a municipality in the Uribe district of Bizkaia, on the Cantabrian coast. Its defining feature is the concave bay, which shelters the waters and forms a calm beach along a coastline stretching over four kilometres. The enclosed shape of the bay creates particularly sheltered conditions, making it a well-suited setting for families.

The bay and its marine surroundings provide good conditions for a range of water sports and nautical activities: kayaking, coasteering, stand-up paddleboarding and other water-based pursuits find a suitable natural setting here. The cliffs and natural space around the bay also offer walking routes with views over the Bay of Biscay and the mouth of the Butrón estuary.

The historical heritage of Gorliz includes the former Marine Sanatorium, built in the early 20th century beside the beach, now converted into a hospital. Standing on the cliffs at 165 metres above sea level is the Gorliz Lighthouse, the tallest on the entire Cantabrian coast, reached by a path from the town centre.
