Beasain

Beasain is the most populous municipality in the Goierri, an inland region of Gipuzkoa located on the A-1 motorway, less than half an hour from San Sebastián (Donostia / San Sebastián). Its most significant heritage asset is the monumental complex in the Igartza quarter, reached by crossing a 12th-century bridge over the Oria river that opens onto a direct view of Mount Txindoki.

On the far side of the bridge, the complex brings together the 15th-century Igartza Palace, now converted into a conference and events venue, a 13th-century ironworks, a mill from the same period still in working order, and a 17th-century cider press that once served as a tavern, shop, inn and hospital, and today houses a hotel and restaurant.

The municipality also holds a spread of heritage across its rural quarters: the parishes of San Martín de Loinaz and Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, the Plaza de San Martín, the Larrate dolmen and several hermitages and churches across the districts of Astigarraga, Garín, Arriarán and Aratz-Matxinbenta.
