Visit to the Toki Alai Interpretation Centre in Urkiola

  • A legendary journey
    Lekeitio — Vitoria-Gasteiz

Description

The Toki Alai Interpretation Centre stands on the eastern slope of Mount Saibi, a short distance from the Urkiola mountain pass in Bizkaia. It serves as the main gateway to Urkiola Natural Park and the base from which the Bizkaia Provincial Council runs its environmental education, information and outreach programmes for the park.

The centre features a permanent exhibition on Urkiola Natural Park, an audiovisual display and a live video feed showing a vulture colony. Visitors can also get detailed information on hiking routes, points of interest and other resources in the area. The adjacent Letona-Korta farmhouse is used for school programmes, workshops, conferences and temporary exhibitions. The park also organises guided walks, flora and fauna days, bird ringing sessions and cave excursions.

A visit to Toki Alai is a practical way to get oriented before exploring the park — to understand the territory and decide which routes or sites to head to next.
