Visit to the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

  • Hugging the coast
    Bilbao — Lekeitio
  • A journey between beginnings and the future
    Orduña — Bilbao

Description

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao stands on the banks of the Bilbao estuary as one of the most recognisable buildings in contemporary architecture. Designed by Frank Gehry, its undulating titanium structure makes the visit an experience that begins outside, where Jeff Koons' floral sculpture Puppy — over 12 metres tall — greets visitors at the entrance.

General admission covers the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions, and the full interior of the building. A highlight is 'The Matter of Time', Richard Serra's large-scale installation that fundamentally alters the perception of space, alongside works by Mark Rothko, Louise Bourgeois, and Eduardo Chillida, among other key figures of modern and contemporary art.

Now a symbol of the renewed Bilbao, the Guggenheim is a central stop on any journey through contemporary Basque culture and an essential reference point for anyone travelling to the city.
