Visit BBK Karpin Fauna, a Wildlife Rescue Centre
- A journey between beginnings and the futureOrduña — Bilbao
Description
BBK Karpin Fauna is a wildlife rescue centre in Karrantza-Harana, within the Armañón Natural Park. It is not a zoo: every animal living here has arrived through illegal trafficking, abandonment as a pet, captive breeding or injury. The centre offers two ways to visit. The self-guided visit lets you explore the facilities at your own pace until closing time. The guided visit, lasting around two hours, is led by one of the centre's keepers, who explains the origin and background of each animal, helps locate them within the enclosures — since the facilities prioritise animal wellbeing over visibility — and answers any questions about the centre's work. After the guided visit, visitors are free to remain in the grounds. The visit is open to all ages. The centre sees education in respect for biodiversity from an early age as a core part of its mission. A worthwhile stop within a journey through the Encartaciones region or the Armañón Natural Park.
