Guided Tour of Hondarribia: Walls and the Fishermen's Quarter

Hondarribia holds two very different urban identities, and this guided tour brings both together in a single walk. The first is the walled old town, where the Renaissance fortifications and the Gate of San Nicolás frame a medieval layout of streets lined with coat-of-arms-bearing houses and palaces, the parish church of Santa María de la Asunción y del Manzano, and the Plaza de Gipuzkoa. The second is the Portu auzoa, the fishermen's quarter, with its brightly painted façades and streets shaped by centuries of life at sea. The route ends at the kai zaharra, the old harbour, where a view opens over the mouth of the Bidasoa river. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and sets off from Arma Plaza. It fits naturally into a journey along the Basque coast, offering a complete reading of Hondarribia — its fortified past and its fishing heritage — before moving on.
