Description

The Getxo Folk International Festival reaches its 42nd edition with a programme that spans international folk, Basque artists and a dedicated space for the musical heritage of the Basque Country.

Running from 9 to 13 September, the festival spreads across three venues in Getxo: Muxikebarri, an indoor hall hosting the ticketed concerts; the car park at Ereaga beach, the setting for free late-night performances; and Plaza Estación de Las Arenas, which hosts the free morning and afternoon concerts. This layout brings the festival to different points across the town and opens it to a wide range of audiences.

The line-up includes Celtas Cortos, marking forty years on stage; Portuguese fado artist Dulce Pontes; and ETS (En Tol Sarmiento), a leading Basque band with a long track record. The festival closes with 'Xalbador, Urepeleko artzaina', a multidisciplinary tribute to the bertsolari Fernando Aire Etxart 'Xalbador', directed by Joxan Goikoetxea, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of his death.
