Visit to Bizkaia Bridge, UNESCO World Heritage Site

Puente Bizkaia, commonly known as the Hanging Bridge, spans the mouth of the estuary between Portugalete and Getxo as one of the most remarkable monuments of European industrial heritage. Built in the 19th century, it was the world's first metal transporter bridge and is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognised as one of the few surviving landmarks of the Industrial Revolution. The visit can be experienced at two levels: from below, watching the gondola ferry that still crosses the Nervión estuary; and from above, taking a panoramic lift up to the pedestrian walkway 50 metres high, where views extend over the river mouth, the port of Bilbao, Portugalete, Getxo, and the surrounding hills.
