Boat Trip from Mundaka to Gaztelugatxe along Urdaibai

  • Hugging the coast
    Bilbao — Lekeitio

Description

The Mundaka–Gaztelugatxe route is a guided boat excursion that departs from Mundaka harbour, within the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, and travels along the coast to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, passing in front of Bermeo. Over approximately two hours at sea, the route offers views of the Urdaibai coastline that cannot be accessed by land: cliffs, coves, and the rugged shoreline of the Bay of Biscay. The final destination, Gaztelugatxe, is one of the most recognisable landmarks on the Basque coast, with its hermitage perched on a rocky islet connected to the mainland by a stone bridge. The activity is organised by Izkira Urdaibai and requires prior booking. For travellers making their way along the Basque coast in stages, this excursion connects two of its most iconic landmarks — the Mundaka estuary and Gaztelugatxe — from the water.
