Description
Elantxobe is a fishing village on the Urdaibai coast, in Bizkaia, set at the foot of Cape Ogoño. Its urban layout — narrow streets and steep lanes descending to the harbour — reflects the constraints of a site squeezed between cliff and sea. The fishermen's houses, with their distinctive arrangement and colours, are the visible record of the seafaring tradition that defines the character of the place.
Elantxobe has a singular architectural feature: a rotating bus platform, built to allow buses to turn around in the village's confined space, which has become one of its most recognisable elements. Next to the harbour, a natural seawater pool offers bathing in direct contact with the sea. Higher up, the church of San Nicolás de Bari and the Atalaya viewpoint open up views over the coastline and the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. A walking path from the village leads towards Cape Ogoño, allowing visitors to explore this stretch of coast on foot.
