Description

Leintz-Gatzaga is one of those rare villages whose identity is directly tied to a specific economic activity: salt production, which drove the founding of the town and still gives the municipality its name today. The Salt Museum preserves this tradition and offers an experience that goes beyond simply looking: making salt, smelling, tasting and touching different types of wood are all part of an approximately one-hour visit that engages all the senses. Just 250 metres from the village, next to the old Dorlas castle, lies the salt spring — now restored — where visitors can see the reproduction of the wooden bucket wheel. Advance booking is required for the guided tour. For those travelling through inland Gipuzkoa, Leintz-Gatzaga is a distinctive stop that brings together landscape, history and industrial heritage in a setting of great authenticity.
