Rower for a Day in Orio: Traditional Basque Rowing on the Oria River

  • With lots of taste
    Zarautz — Donostia/San Sebastián

Description

Orio is one of the municipalities with the strongest rowing tradition in the Basque Country, having won dozens of La Concha flags throughout its history. At Arraunetxe, Orio's Rowing and Canoeing Technification Centre, the company Begi-Bistan offers the chance to experience this tradition from the inside. The traditional Basque rowing experience allows participants to board traineras, trainerillas or batel on the Oria river for one hour, guided by a local coach with an extensive rowing record. Before taking to the water, the activity includes an explanation of the vessels and basic technical notions. The difficulty level is medium-low and the activity is available throughout the year. It is not suitable for pregnant women or people with injuries. A stop that connects directly with the seafaring and sporting identity of Orio, and fits naturally into any itinerary along the Gipuzkoan coast between Zarautz and Zumaia.
