Guided Tour of the Argiñeta Necropolis in Elorrio

The Argiñeta necropolis is located in the Zenita neighbourhood on the outskirts of Elorrio, among ancient oak trees beside the chapel of San Adrián. Regarded as one of the most significant heritage sites in the archaeology of Bizkaia, the complex brings together around twenty sarcophagi dating from the 7th to the 9th centuries, alongside five funerary stelae decorated with astral motifs. The disc-shaped form of the stelae and their decorative patterns are the legacy of a long tradition, and some of the inscriptions found here are considered the oldest Christian inscriptions discovered in Bizkaia. The guided tour, lasting 45 minutes and available for groups, allows visitors to explore the site with a specialist guide.
