Discover the Torre-Palacio de los Condes de Orgaz

The Torre-Palacio de los Condes de Orgaz, in the hamlet of Fontecha (Lantarón), is a complex made up of a wall, a tower and a palace whose military origins date back to the 14th century, when it was built by the House of Mendoza. The tower and palace complex was extended at the end of the 15th century or the beginning of the 16th, as revealed by its gallery, doorway elements and the heraldry of the Mendoza and Guzmán families. After decades in a state of ruin, the Cuadrilla de Añana launched a full restoration project carried out by the Escuela Micaela Portilla, in which young students work on the complex using traditional carpentry, masonry and forestry techniques. Visiting the medieval complex of Fontecha is an experience that brings visitors closer to the medieval history of southern Álava and shows first-hand the living process of heritage restoration.
