Discover the Agurtza Boat Museum in Santurtzi as a Family

The Agurtza Boat Museum is a wooden fishing vessel built in 1968 at the Murelaga shipyards in Lekeitio, now an Interpretation Centre for Fishing Techniques in Santurtzi. It is the only vessel of its kind open to visitors in Biscay, and a stop with plenty to discover for families travelling together. During the guided visit, younger visitors can find out how northern albacore tuna was caught, what the txos or cabin boys — children who worked aboard the fishing boats — actually did, and what daily life was like for the crew. On family visits, children are also offered a hands-on activity: building a model of the boat, making the experience active and memorable. The boat is moored on Santurtzi's seafront promenade, between the fishing harbour and the Bizkaia Bridge, with views over the Abra Bay. A visit that combines history, the sea and activity, and fits naturally as a stop on any family trip along the Biscay coast.
