20 minutes from Bilbao by metro, you will discover the Bizkaia Bridge. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it is a marvel of 19th century engineering and a symbol of the Basque Country’s industrial heritage.
This transporter bridge, also commonly known as the Hanging Bridge, links the shores of Getxo and Portugalete, offering a unique experience and unbeatable views of the area.
The “Hanging Bridge” was the world’s first transporter bridge built with a metal structure and is one of the great monuments of the Industrial Revolution and one of the few surviving representatives of that era.
It is still active today and also offers tours more than 50 metres above the ground. From the top you can enjoy extraordinary views that span the mouth of the river Nervión, the Port of Bilbao, the surrounding mountains, Portugalete and Getxo.
