We celebrate not only his unique contributions to the art scene but also the way his work has transformed the cultural landscape. We will immerse ourselves in some of Chillida\u2019s most outstanding works and the emblematic places that bear his legacy.<\/p>\n\n

An essential legacy<\/h2>\n\n

Since the 1950s, his work has been important in museums and art collections in Europe and America. His works have been studied by historians and art critics and admired by poets such as Octavio Paz and Gabriel Celaya. They have also been mentioned by thinkers such as Martin Heidegger and Gaston Bachelard. His award-winning and widely exhibited art has established itself as a fundamental and inescapable pillar of contemporary art. <\/p>\n\n

For many, Chillida represents the pinnacle of Spanish sculpture in the second half of the 20th century. For more than 50 years, the artist explored complementary concepts in his art. These concepts include emptiness and volume, light and shadow, and limits and infinity. The materials he used in his works, such as iron, concrete, stone, alabaster and steel, were not important in themselves. Nor were the simple, mysterious forms that characterised his work. It is an intimate experience that reveals the dedication and passion that Chillida devoted to his art.<\/p>\n\n

Chillida at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao: a fusion of tradition and the avant-garde<\/h2>\n\n

You can also enjoy the Basque artist\u2019s works in Bilbao. The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has masterpieces by Chillida that combine the museum\u2019s modern architecture with the timeless essence of his art. <\/p>\n\n

On 10 January 2024, the centenary of Eduardo Chillida will be celebrated. he Eduardo Chillida – Pilar Belzunce Foundation has prepared a full programme of exhibitions, musical and film activities, workshops, etc. <\/p>\n\n

This worldwide celebration brings Chillida\u2019s work closer to different cultures, generations and countries. On the centenary of Eduardo Chillida\u2019s birth, we immerse ourselves in a journey that goes beyond steel sculptures and abstract forms. <\/p>\n\n

It is a celebration to show how Chillida captured the essence of his land and captured it in works still admired all over the world.<\/p>\n\n

Chillida in the Basque Country<\/h2>\n\n

The Artium, Bellas Artes and Balenciaga Museoa museums will show works by Chillida over the next few months. In Donostia \/ San Sebastian, the San Telmo Museum, the Artegunea Hall and Tabakalera will organise exhibitions dedicated to the illustrious Basque sculptor, each with its own distinctive interpretation, according to Mikel Chillida, Development Director of Chillida Leku.<\/p>\n\n

The Hernani Museum will show sculptures by Chillida from the Telef\u00f3nica Collection from 15 May to 13 October 2024. The Chillida centenary seeks to honour his values and contributions to contemporary art. To this end, there will be publications and a documentary directed by Arantxa Aguirre. <\/p>\n\n

The temporary exhibition \u201cLugar de encuentros IV\u201d is located in the Palacio de Miramar. In addition, the aim is to bring the artist closer to young people through a comic and a lesson on Eduardo Chillida. <\/p>\n\n
